Tomorrow’s Image Barber Shop was established by John J. Chapman, Jr., October 21, 2000. John opened the first shop performing barber services only, with four Booth Renters at 15401 Warwick Boulevard in Newport News, Virginia. Prior to the shop’s 1-year anniversary, braiding services were added and the staff grew to six licensed barbers and two braiders.
The Tomorrow’s Image staff was pivotal in expanding the shops cliental and demand for quality service on the Peninsula. Their dedication, determination, professional skills, and experience brought about the need for a second shop. Tomorrow’s Image II was opened February 2, 2003 at 13641-A Warwick Boulevard also in Newport News. Within two years, this location grew from 4 barbers and 1 braider to 5 licensed barbers, 2 braiders, and 1 stylist.
In hopes of continuing to provide quality Barbering Services that Tomorrow’s Image became noted for, Mr. Chapman established Tomorrow’s Image Barber Academy of Virginia in July of 2005. The Academy is located at 490-F Denbigh Boulevard in Newport News. The Academy is dedicated to providing students with the knowledge and technical proficiency necessary to obtain their license, find gainful employment, and advance beyond the entry level requirements in the field of barbering and cosmetology. Tomorrow’s Image Barber Academy of Virginia became nationally accredited by NACCAS (National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts & Sciences) in 2010. The institution recieved its State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) Certification in 2016. Plans for expansion of course studies are yet to come.
The Tomorrow’s Image enterprise is steadily growing and maintaining a dominant presence on the Peninsula. It's services span wider than just barbering and cosmetology, but speak to the needs of the community.
